MALE INVOLVEMENT


Thrive by Five-Detroit recognizes the value of men. We provide extra services and resources for men. Fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers, uncles, brothers, etc. are encouraged to get involved. HEALTH/SCREENINGS

Family Service Workers and Health Service staff help families get their medical and dental needs met. Healthy habits are part of the daily  classroom routine. These daily habits include, supervised tooth brushing after meals and swishing after snack, and learning how to cough and sneeze into one's elbow or shoulder. Thrive by Five Detroit is governed by the rules and regulations of Michigan’s EPSDT standards as to when children are required to have Well Baby Checks and Physical Exams.  Top of the page>>


CHILDREN WITH SPECIAL NEEDS

Ten percent of our enrollment is for children with special needs.  enrollment opportunities to children with special needs. Parents/guardians of children with diagnosed disabilities, developmental, social and/or emotional delays are encouraged to apply. ,We make extra effort to ensue that their needs are met and that they integrate into the classroom smoothly..   Top of the page>>


TRANSITIONING

Transitions are changes and changes can be hard! Transitioning can be from home to childcare, from infant/toddler class to preschool, from preschool to kindergarten. We help children and families transition by providing support, resources and links to the community.  Top of the page>>


NUTRITION

The Head Start Nutrition Services follow all rules and regulations set by the USDA Child and Adult Care Food Program. Meals are provided for all children in the centers and meet 1/3 to 2/3 of the daily nutritional requirements.  Mealtime is more than just eating, it is also a time to learn about food and health. Classroom staff eats with the children and meals are served family-style.  Children help in set the table, serve themselves, and clean up.

 The cultural and religious needs of our general population are taken into consideration when menus are planned.  Menu planning meetings are held with families once per year. Parent/guardians are invited to participate in the planning session. Top of the page>>


EDUCATION/CURRICULUM

Thrive by Five Detroit believes that children learn best when they learn through experiences, and those experiences match their stage of development. The High Scope curriculum is designed this way, and is used in all Thrive by Five Early Head Start / Head Start classrooms. HOME VISITS


The Head Start/Early Head Start staff will make at least two home visits per program year. Home visits help us to get to know you and your family better. Parents/guardians have an opportunity to discuss their child’s development, express any concerns and set goals for the child and family.  Top of the page>>
